Who has an interest in diaper recycling?
Diapers and other incontinence material make up about 5% -7% of our residual waste. That is a huge mountain that we burn annually and convert into electricity. It is important for a large number of parties that diapers can be recycled in a clean, hygienic and above all economical way. Who are these stakeholders and what does Diaper Recycling Europe has to offer them?
Consumers
In the Netherlands, approximately 600,000 toddlers and appr. 400,000 elderly people use diapers and incontinence equipment. Young parents are highly motivated to help solve the diaper problem. The willingness to hand in used diapers at a central point is high. This positive attitude is an important condition for success. If consumers hand in used diapers at day care centres, this will make the collection process much easier.
Organizations
An important key in the success of diaper recycling lies in the collection. Various organizations play a crucial role here: day care ecntrea are a vital link as a central collection point. Here, parents can easily dispose of the diaper waste. While the day care organizations can commit to the green theme of “diaper recycling”. The same applies to elderly homes and other healthcare institutions.
Governments
In The Netherlands there is a target of 75% waste separation and 100 kg residual waste with householdds is a very tough one. One of the most important flows in the residual waste is diaper waste. With the arrival of Diaper Recycling Europe, a clean, hygienic and economically responsible (if not, financially attractive) alternative has now been added.
100% recycling – 0% incineration
Manufacturers
300 billion diapers are produced annually worldwide. Given the ease of use of diapers and the expected increase and aging of the world population, it is safe to conclude: the problem of diaper waste will not disappear tomorrow. It is very important for manufacturers to be able to commit to a clean and meaningful recycling method. And help with “circular by design”.
Investors
Because the problem of diaper waste transcends national borders, while recycling takes place regionally, a collaboration of various financial partners is most obvious: European vision, local solution. We strive for a combination of institutional and strategic parties. With one common denominator: every recycling installation operates with an interesting and attractive revenue model.
Waste industry
The interests here are opposite. On the one hand, it is nice that there is a recycling method on the market that recycles diapers in a clean and commercially responsible manner. At the same time, diapers also consist of highly flammable materials with which electricity is generated. And incineration facilities are often based on long-term energy supply contracts that cannot simply be put aside.
